Our golden rules
Together with the young people of each section, we have created 8 golden rules that are here to guide the behaviour in our group.
Should any of these rules be broken we will implement the policy below.
Why does this policy exist?
All of our leaders are volunteers. We are not paid anything, we all have full-time jobs and we give up a lot of time to ensure that the sections have fun. This means that we should not have to deal with members who do not behave in the way expected of them.
We, therefore, have a “yellow card, red card” behavioural policy, so that young people and parents all know exactly what is expected and how we will deal with any rule breakages.
Weekly meetings
Green | Everyone is automatically on a green card at each meeting |
Warning | On the first instance of misbehaviour, a verbal warning will be given |
Yellow | Should a second warning be given, the young person will receive a yellow card and will sit out of the current activity for 5 minutes |
Red | If the misbehaviour continues again, a red card is given. This will result in the young person missing the following week’s meeting |
Anything from a warning and above is recorded by our leader team.
Parents will be notified via email if a yellow card or above has been issued during an evening.
What happens if the misbehaviour continues?
Consistent misbehaviour may result in any or all of the following:
- Young person being excluded from residential events
- Parents/guardians meeting with the leader
- A behaviour contract being drawn up
- Young person may be asked to leave the group
Camps and residentials
Green | Everyone is automatically on a green card |
Warning | On the first instance of misbehaviour, a verbal warning will be given |
1st Yellow | Should a second warning be given, the young person will receive a yellow card and will sit out of the current activity for 5 minutes |
2nd Yellow | Should a third warning be given, the young person will receive a second yellow card and will sit out of the current activity. At this point, a parent/guardian will be notified |
Red | If the misbehaviour continues again, a red card is given. This will result in the young person's parent/guardian being called and leaving camp |
We would much prefer not to have to deal with misbehaviour as it is not only unfair on us, it is also unfair on those young people who are behaving and want to get on with activities, so the above code will be strictly enforced. Your young person’s attendance will be taken as acceptance by you of these rules.
