Develop new skills. Soar to great heights. Being a Cub opens up a whole other world.

Cubs are young people aged 8 to 10½ who:

  • Master new skills and try new things
  • Have fun and go on adventures
  • Make friends
  • Are curious about the world around them
  • Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond

Each Pack is made up of young people aged 8 to 10, led by an adult Cub leader traditionally nicknamed Akela after the wise leader of the wolf pack in Rudyard Kipling’s novel, The Jungle Book.

Within their Pack, Cubs are also part of a Six. A Six is a smaller group of Cubs, headed up by a Sixer and a Seconder. Sixers and Seconders are Cub Scouts who are chosen to take on leadership responsibilities, such as welcoming new people to the Pack, being extra helpful on camp, or taking charge of a particular game or activity.

Cub uniform consists of a green sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and a group scarf. Alongside their sweatshirts, Cubs wear the accompanying blue uniform activity trousers or a navy blue skirt.

You can purchase the uniform at any of these websites:

As a group, we have a second, more informal uniform which is our famous orange t-shirts and hoodies. We wear these on trips and camps as a more relaxed option. You can purchase these items from our Kitshop.

Activity badges

Many of the badges available are activity badges, which allow Beavers to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests.

Challenge awards

Gaining a challenge badge involves accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the Colony or community. There are several challenge badges across a number of themes, from the physical and outdoorsy to challenges dealing with the local community or issues connected with the Scouting world.

Core badges

In addition, there are a number of special badges, obtained upon joining or moving on from the Colony, or for time spent in the Scouting movement.

Activity packs

Some activity badges are sponsored by outside companies, and these companies often provide extra exciting resource packs to help Scouts towards gaining their badges.

Our Cub Pack has 3 opportunities for nights away every year.

One-night sleepover

Our yearly residential in a local setting.

Winter camp

This is held in late January/early February and is an indoor weekend away from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.

May camp
